\nPrima di ogni evento della vita esiste un attimo in cui l’essere umano si blocca e, non sempre in maniera consapevole, valuta quanto questo accadimento cambier\u00e0 il proprio percorso. Il fatto \u00e8 che l’uomo tende ad essere un animale \u201cresistente\u201d, ancorato alla staticit\u00e0 piuttosto che attratto dal cambiamento, vuoi per insicurezza, per paura di quello che non si conosce o forse per un continuo atto di autosabotaggio. Il nuovo disco dei News For Lulu<\/strong> parla di questo e le dodici canzoni che lo compongono sono fotografie di quell’attimo in cui tutto \u00e8 immobile, prima che succeda qualcosa. Si intitola \u201cCircles<\/strong>\u201d, perch\u00e9 questo processo di resistenza al cambiamento, in cui ci si ritrova dopo molte fatiche di nuovo al punto di partenza, spesso prende le sembianze di un cerchio.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

All’interno di questo cerchio ci sono le canzoni dei News For Lulu<\/strong>: eleganti e ricercate, ricche di melodia, figlie di un processo di maturazione musicale lungo dieci anni, che omaggiano Harry Nillson (\u201cInto Nowhere<\/strong>\u201d) e il miglior pop sognante dei tardi Settanta alla Fleetwood Mac (\u201cFollow And Run<\/strong>\u201d), che rielaborano la psichedelia come i Band Of Horses di \u201cCease To Begin\u201d (\u201cSpring Burns<\/strong>\u201d, il bellissimo singolo che ha anticipato l\u2019album) o che partendo dal piano wurlitzer la riempiono \u00a0di coralit\u00e0, come in \u201cGrin And Bear It<\/strong>\u201d. E se qualcuno pensa che una canzone pop non possa essere irregolare, ecco \u201cEagles<\/strong>\u201d a far cambiare idea agli scettici, con una struttura varia e studiata battuta dopo battuta, o una \u201cSay Hello With A Wave<\/strong>\u201d che rimane su binari pi\u00f9 lineari e che potrebbe essere una canzone degli Electric Light Orchestra. Ma il ventaglio di sfumature pop che i Lulu sanno estendere \u00e8 fatto anche di pezzi pi\u00f9 tirati come \u201cNew Year’s Eve<\/strong>\u201d, di collage sonori (\u201cRain\u201d), di episodi che si appoggiano su una batteria pulsante, da cui far partire trame vocali e sonore curiosissime (\u201cYour Uniform\u201d). E se alla lezione sui Beatles erano tutti presenti, i cinque pavesi con \u201cFlowers In The Oven<\/strong>\u201d dimostrano di aver apprezzato anche quella sui Roxy Music, per poi ritornare ad un pezzo arrangiato con tagli netti su un mare di percussioni che si slabbrano tra di loro (\u201cOh no\u201d). Il disco non pu\u00f2 terminare che con l’omonima \u201cCircles<\/strong>\u201d, a sottolineare un continuo ritorno.<\/p>\n

“Circles”<\/strong> \u00e8 stato registrato e mixato da Ben Brodin<\/strong> (Mynabirds, Bright Eyes), presso gli Another Recording Company Studios di Omaha in Nebraska<\/strong>, e masterizzato a New York dal guru Joe Lambert<\/strong>, uno che si \u00e8 occupato dei dischi di Animal Collective, The National e Deerhunter, solo per citarne alcuni. E tra gli ospiti troviamo lo stesso Brodin<\/strong> e le incredibili voci di Laura Burhenn<\/strong> (Mynabirds, Postal Service) e Orenda Fink<\/strong> (Azure Ray). Il disco, il cui artwork \u00e8 stato realizzato dal celebre illustratore americano Robert Beatty<\/strong>, uscir\u00e0 per Urtovox<\/strong> anche in edizione limitata (500 copie numerate) su vinile 180 grammi.<\/p>\n

\u201cCircles<\/strong>\u201d non \u00e8 un concept, \u00e8 un disco che parla di momenti simili in situazioni diverse, di barriere, di sabotaggi incoscienti ma in fin dei conti volontari, di strade lunghissime che riportano agli stessi checkpoint. Musica solare che si intreccia con testi lunari. Canzoni che per come sono pensate e rese, per come suonano e per quel che trasmettono, rasentano davvero la perfezione. Come un cerchio.<\/p>\n
