Herself<\/strong> \u00e8 una delle creature del polistrumentista Gioele Valenti<\/strong>, molto attivo negli ultimi anni nella scena neopsichedelica nordeuropea in diverse formazioni (JuJu, Josefin Ohrn, Lay Llamas<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Il lavoro di Herself viene salutato dalla critica, sin dagli esordi in casa Jestrai<\/strong> (prima label dei Verdena<\/strong>), come un armonico meeting tra Sparklehorse, Gravenhurst e Will Oldham<\/strong>. Con un pugno di dischi alle spalle, il songwriting di Gioele Valenti<\/strong> sa di folk apocalittico a bassa fedelt\u00e0, derive crooner e pop adamantino, e sebbene affondi le sue radici nella tradizione della forma canzone, la sua musica osa spesso nel territorio di una sperimentazione sottile ed equilibrata.<\/p>\n

Il nuovo Rigel Playground<\/strong> predispone l\u2019ascoltatore per un viaggio di folk cosmico, in cui gli inglesismi della tradizione si sposano con una vena alt, come se Beatles<\/strong> e Sparklehorse<\/strong> incontrassero i tormenti di Nick Drake<\/strong> e l\u2019intimismo di un Mike Scott.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Avvezzo da sempre alle collaborazioni (neglianni, Amaury Cambuzat degli Ulan Bator, John Fallon dei The Steppes, Capra Informis dei GOAT ecc\u2026), ospite illustre in questo disco c\u2019\u00e8 Jonathan Donahue<\/strong>, singer degli americani Mercury Rev<\/strong>, band di assoluto rilievo nell\u2019indie internazionale, che oltre ad aver prestato la voce sul singolo The Beast of Love<\/strong>, ha \u2013 a detta dello stesso Herself<\/strong> \u2013 informato l\u2019essenza dell\u2019intero disco.<\/p>\n

Non a caso, i Mercury Rev<\/strong> hanno scelto Herself<\/strong> per accompagnarli durante il loro tour italiano che avr\u00e0 luogo in settembre.<\/p>\n
